Orinal "Effervescent Granules"

Each 100 g contains:  
Piperazine hydrate 3 g
Hexamine 10 g
Khellin 0.03 g

Pharmacological Properties:
Orinal granules is of great value in patients with urinary and biliary tract infections. It contains khellin as a smooth muscle relaxant that relieves urethral and biliary spasms. It contains in addition piperazine hydrate which is a solubilizer for uric acid.
In addition, Hexamine incorporated in orinal granules has an antimicrobial action due to formaldehyde which is liberated during acid hydrolysis. Hexamine is effective in vitro against E. coli, pseudomonas aeruginosa, proteus vulgaris & some klebsiella spp. Hexamine is chiefly used in the prophylaxis and treatment of chronic or recurrent uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections and asymptomatic bacteriuria.

Hexamine is readily absorbed from the G.I.T and widely distributed in the body.
The half life of Hexamine is approximately 4 hours and it is rapidly and completely excreted in the urine.
Piperazine hydrate is readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract & is excreted in the urine, partly as metabolites.

Urinary and biliary infections, as diuretic, antiseptic & antispasmodic.

Orinal is contraindicated in hepatic insufficiency, severe renal impairment, severe dehydration, gout & epilepsy.

Drug interactions:
Concomitant use of alkalinizing agent in urine including some antacids and diuretics such as thiazides should be avoided. Concomitant use of alkalinizing agent in urine including some antacids and diuretics such as thiazides should be avoided.
Concomitant administration of Hexamine and sulphonamides may increase the risk of crystalluria.

Side effects:
Nausea and vomiting may occur.

Large doses or prolonged administration may give rise to inflammation of the urinary tract, painful micturation. 

By administration of alkalinizing drugs as sodium bicarbonate.

Dosage and administration:
Dissolve each sachet in a half glass of water three times daily.
