Solvinal "Effervescent Granules"

Composition:

Each 5 gm contains:  
Colchicine 0.3 mg
Piperazine hydrate 0.128 gm
Atropine sulphate 0.128 mg


Pharmacological Properties:
Solvinal effervescent granules is an effective drug combination which contains colchicine that reduces lactic acid production by leukocytes resulting in a decrease in uric acid deposition, also it has an anti-inflammatory action. Piperazine is an excellent solvent for uric acid.
Atropine sulphate acts peripherally as a competitive antagonist of the muscarinic receptors of acetyl choline so it inhibits contractions of the ureter and bladder.

Indications:
Solvinal is indicated in treatment of:
•    Acute and chronic gout.
•    Acute gouty arthritis.
•    Gout prophylaxis.
•    Ureteral and biliary colic.

Contraindications:
Solvinal is contraindicated in patients with:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug.
- Glaucoma and asthma.
- Combined renal and hepatic disease or cardiac disorders.

Precautions:
•    Chronic treatment with Solvinal can cause blurred vision.
•    Patients with prostatism can have difficulty in urination with the use of Solvinal.

Pregnancy:
Solvinal is not to be used in pregnancy.

Lactation:
Caution should be exercised when solvinal is administered to a nursing woman.


Drug interactions:
- The potential of Solvinal to cause mouth dryness may be increased if it is given with tricyclic antidepressants, antipsychotics and antiparkinsonism drugs.

Side effects:
•    Slight dryness of nose and mouth.
•    Bradycardia.
•    Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea with abdominal pain.
•    Peripheral nerve inflammation, myopathy, and bone marrow depression have been reported with long-term administration.

Overdosage:
Signs of overdosage include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, tachycardia and mydriasis.
Treatment: Following gastric lavage, administration of a saline purgative and oxygen respiration.

Dosage and Administration:
Unless otherwise prescribed by the physician, the content of one sachet is dissolved in half a glass of water before meals and taken 3 times daily.

Storage:
Store in a dry cool place, below 25º C, protect from light.

Package:
Box containing 10 sachets, 5 gm each.
