Composition:
Each tablet contains:
Heptaminol acefyllinate   500 mg
Wheat starch                  40 mg
Silica levilite hydrate        5 mg
Magnesium stearate        5 mg
                                      
Pharmaceutical form: Tablets.

Pharmacological actions:
Heptaminol acefyllinate is a theophylline derivative.
It has a stimulant effect on respiration by raising the amplitude of respiratory movements without affecting the rhythm.

Pharmacokinetics:
Heptaminol acefyllinate is poorly absorbed from gastrointestinal tract.
Its biological half-life is short (0.78 hour), and it is eliminated through urine.

Indications:
Cariamyl is indicated in the symptomatic treatment of chronic bronchopneumopathies.

Dosage & administration:
One to two tablets three times daily.

Contraindications:
Cariamyl is contraindicated in:
- Patients with hypersensitivity to any of the components of the product.
- Severe arterial hypertension.
- Hyperthyroidism.
- Children less than 15 years.

Side effects:
Some of the following side effects may occur in some cases:
Nausea, gastric pain, tachycardia, palpitations.

Drug interactions:
Cimetidine and erythromycin (and any other macrolide) may increase concentration of Cariamyl.

Pregnancy:
There is a possibility of occurrence of tachycardia and hyperexcitation to the newborn baby, if Cariamyl is administered at the end of pregnancy.

Precautions & warnings:
Cariamyl should be used with caution in cardiac, coronary or hepatic insufficiency, obesity, gastroduodenal ulcer.
