Generic name: Metronidazole–Neomycin sulfate.

Each tablet contains:

Neomycin sulfate
(equivalent to Neomycin 70,000 IU)
100 mg
Metronidazole 250 mg
Microcrystalline cellulose (Avicel) 217 mg
Croscarmellose sodium (Ac-di-sol) 20 mg
Polyvinyl pyrrolidone K90 10 mg
Magnesium stearate 3 mg

Pharmaceutical form: Tablets.

Pharmacological actions:
Neoentrocin forte is amebicidal, trichomonacidal and bactericidal, it is effective against anaerobic gram-negative bacilli, including most Bacteroides species, Fusobacterium and Veillonella, anaerobic gram-positive cocci including Clostridium, Eubacterium, Peptococcus and Peptostreptococcus.
It is also active against H. Pylori, G. Vaginalis and the protozoa E. hystolytica, T. vaginalis and G. lamblia and the trophozoite forms of E. hystolytica.

Neoentrocin forte is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, then it is rapidly distributed in the tissues.
Neoentrocin forte is excreted by the kidneys.

Neoentrocin forte is used in:
- Treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria.
- Treatment of bacterial vaginosis.
- Periodontal infections.
- Protozoal infections: hepatic and intestinal amebiasis, trichomonal infections in men and women, giardiasis.

Dosage & administration:
- Anaerobic infections:
2 tablets every 8 hours for 7 days.

- Bacterial vaginosis:
2 tablets twice daily for 7 days.

- Trichomoniasis:
8 tablets as a single dose.

- Amebiasis:
3 tablets 3 times daily for 10 days.

8 tablets daily for 3 days (preferably given at bed time with food)
or one tablet 3 times daily for 5–7 days.

- Periodontal infections:
One tablet 3 times daily for 3 to 5 days.
For severe infections: 2 tablets twice daily for 3 to 5 days.


Neoentrocin forte is contraindicated in:
- Individuals with hypersensitivity to any of the components of the product.
- Presence of intestinal obstruction.
- Patients with inflammatory or ulcerative gastrointestinal disease.
- Patients with a history of blood dyscrasias.
Side effects:
Some of the following side effects may occur in some cases:
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, palpitation, dizziness, headache, transient ataxia, confusion, ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity, rash.

Drug interactions:
- Neoentrocin forte may decrease clearance of carbamazepine and phenytoin.

- Administering Neoentrocin forte and disulfiram together may result in confusion and psychotic reactions because of combined toxicity.
- Caution should be taken in concurrent or serial use of Neoentrocin forte with other neurotoxic and / or nephrotoxic drugs, other aminoglycosides and polymyxins.

- Neoentrocin forte may enhance the effect of coumarin in anticoagulants and inhibit gastrointestinal absorption of Penicillin V, oral vitamin B12, methotrexate, 5-fluorouracil and digoxin.

Neoentrocin forte is not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy, and after that, the patient should be apprised of the potential hazard to the fetus.

A decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.

Precautions & warnings:
- Convulsive seizures and peripheral neuropathy may occur in patients treated with Neoentrocin forte, in this case, treatment must be discontinued immediately.

- When Neoentrocin forte is used in the treatment of trichomoniasis, patients should be advised to abstain from intercourse or to use a condom during intercourse for the duration of treatment.

- Neoentrocin forte should be used with caution in patients with CNS diseases, severe hepatic disease and muscular disorders (as myasthenia gravis or parkinsonism).
